GUIDE NOTES

BIG GUIDE
“Of the unspoken word thou art master; the spoken word is master of thee.”
In addition to the report forms just sent in, there is the annual report and statement of accounts for every company, to be written by the captain; a full report to be given of the work of the year, August 31, 1938, to August 1, 1939. Lone captains note that their reports and balance-sheets are due to the Lone secretary. These reports are to include such items as roll number, status of company work, badges gained, finance, general activities. This report is to be sent to the District Commissioner by August 31. The statement of receipts and expenditure, accompanied by company cash book, bank book, patrol roll books, are forwarded to the district secretary (for Invercargill, Miss Lipscombe, 22 Nelson street) or Lone secretary for Lone companies. Guiders are to have statement and cash book audited before handing in. All Guides and Rangers should remember the message that is to be sent over the air on Sunday afternoon at 4.30 from amateur station ZL4CE, 3590 kilocycles (80 metres). Will anyone who deciphers the message please write it out and send it to the District Commissioner, who will then be able to let the sender, who has been kind enough to do this for us, know how many picked up his message. The dots and dashes will sound like dit and dah respectively. THE CREED Some new Guides may not be familar with these well-known words. I would be true, for there are those who trust me, I would be pure, for there are those who care, I would be strong, for there is much to suffer, I would be brave, for there is mucn to dare, I would be friend to all—the foe, the friendless, I would be giving, and forget the gift, I would be humble, for I know my weakness, I would look up, send love and laugh and lift.
