OBITUARY
REV. BROTHER MARTIN
The death has occurred in Timaru of the Rev. Brother Martin, of the Marist Brothers. He was stationed at Invercargill about six years ago and during his stay here his health broke down and he returned to the Marist Brothers at Claremont, Timaru. Brother- Martin was bom in Sydney and, when very young, came to New Zealand with his parents, taking up residence at Napier. When about 15 years old he returned to Sydney to join the Marist Brothers, going first to St. Mary’s Seminary and later to St Joseph’s Novitiate, Hunter’s Hill. For several years after he completed his training he taught in Marist Brothers’ schools in Australia, being stationed at St Joseph’s College, Hunter’s Hill, Sacred Heart School, Darlinghurst, Kilmore and also in South Australia.
About 40 years ago he returned to New Zealand and taught at the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, Wanganui, Wellington, Hamilton, Timaru and Invercargill. Requiem Mass was sung by the Rev. Father O’Conner who also officiated at the graveside, in the Marist Brothers’ cemetery at Claremont.
