FIRST SESSION OF PARLIAMENT

SOUTHLAND MEMBERS LEAVE FOR OPENING

The first session of the Parliament elected last October will be opened by a commission of five members of the Legislative Council on Tuesday. The ceremnoial opening by the Gover-nor-General (Viscount Galway) will be held on Wednesday. The personnel of the commission is as follows:—The Speaker of the Legislative Council (Sir Walter Carncross), the Leader of the Council (the Hon. Mark Fagan), and the Hons. T. F. Doyle, W. Perry and J. Alexander.

The only new Southland representative in Parliament is Mr T. L. Macdonald, M.P., who has already gone north for the opening. The Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton), the Hon. T. O’Byrne, M.L.C., and Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P., will leave today for Wellington and the Hon. T. F. Doyle, M.L.C., and Mr J. Hargest, M.P., will leave by the express tomorrow night.
