Fire Fighting Education

A scheme to educate the public in what should be done in case of fire was recommended by Captain R. S. Judson at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board. He referred to a recent fire in Remuera, where two wellintentioned neighbours, in the absence of the occupants, opened the doors and windows of the house to carry out furniture, which act unwittingly assisted the fire. Their action, he added, might have caused considerably more damage, had the brigade not arrived promptly. Captain Judson suggested that it would be unwise to relax the plan to give periodic instruction about fires to school children.
