WOMAN’S CLAIM FOR £5000 DAMAGES
JUDGMENT GIVEN FOR DEFENDANT

NEW PLYMOUTH, May 26.
Judgment for the defendant was given in the Supreme Court today in the case in which Miss Susan Biggs claimed £5OOO general and £62/16/special damages against George Edward Woodhead, driver of the lorry with which the car in which she was a passenger collided near Okaiawa on October 13, A compound fracture of the skull and injuries which necessitated amputation of the left arm were suffered by Miss Biggs The defence was a denial of negligence on the part of Woodhead in backing the lorry across the road in the face of oncoming traffic and an assertion that the accident was caused rather by the speed of the car the plaintiff was travelling in and negligence on the part of its driver.
