NO GAS MASKS FOR CIVILIANS

(United Press Association)

AUCKLAND, May 26.

Referring to air raid precautions, the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F Jones) in an interview said there was no intention on the part of the Government to provide the civil population with gas masks. “Our experts say it is not necessary,” he added. In the main centres of New Zealand, a key personnel had been established for anti-gas training, thus imparting certain knowledge to selected groups so they could give instruction if necessary to others. Local bodies had been consulted, and instructions given to members of the police force, fire brigades, traffic officers and the like.
