MRS A. THOMSON

The death has occurred at Gore of Mrs Alexander Thomson, of Brydone, at the age of 67 years. Mrs Thomson was born at Dunedin, being a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Michael Welsh, and she was educated at the South Dunedin Convent. Forty-seven years ago she married Mr Alexander Thomson, and for 22 years they farmed at West Taieri. They then shifted to Brydone. Mrs Thomson always took a keen interest in the welfare of the community. Mrs Thomson was a member of the Brydone branch of the Women s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and in recognition of her work for the soldiers during the war period she was elected a life member of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society. She was an enthusiastic gardener and her ■'.yell-kept garden showed her love of flowers and shrubs. She is survived by her husband, two 5 95, s ’ Mr Alexander Thomson (Whitechffs, North Canterbury) and Mr Leslie Thomson (Brydone) and three daughters, Mesdames W. Sleeman (Maiaura), W. Duggan (Gore) and J. Griffiths (Gore). There are also nine grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Gore, to the Mataura cemetery yesterday afternoon.

MRS MARY FEWINGS The death has occurred at Freshford of Mrs Mary Neilson Fewings, at the age of 68 years. Mrs Fewings was born at Benmore, being a daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Moffat, and she was educated at the Waikaia school, her parents moving to that district when she was only 12 months of age. At the age of 22 years she married Mr William Fewings, who died 10 years ago. Mrs Fewings was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and she took a keen interest in the affairs of the district. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs Roger Maher, of Freshford.
