BOXING
BAKER MATCHED WITH ADAMS In choosing an opponent for Dick Baker, the Southland Boxing Association has matched Les Adams, who is well known to local boxing enthusiasts. Adams was always popular in Invercargill and always put up a good showing in all his contests. Since going to Ashburton he apparently has improved considerably as he has won against Mudgway (title holder), Tiger Parks, Jack Jarvis, Stan Jenkin and others. Dick Baker has fully recovered from influenza and is showing great form in his workouts. Whether he can extend such an experienced fighter as Adams remains to be seen, but if he does win his stocks will rise considerably and he will be in line with any welterweight in New Zealand today. Topping the preliminaries will be a six-round contest between Bill’ Enwright, the local middleweight, and Bob Tonks, of Ashburton. Tonks is a dangerous fighter who fights all the time and who has won the majority of his bouts by a knock-out. He holds a knock-out decision over Wes Jack, present middle title holder. Further excellent supports are being arranged and the entertainment offered to local fans is outstanding.
