TRAINER’S FINE RECORD

Nine Jumping Races

Won

INVERCARGILL OWNER’S SUCCESS

The Riverton trainer, J. Thistleton, has established rather a fine record during the last 12 months in winning nine steeplechase races for the Invercargill sportsman, Mr R. Brown, with Gold Wren and Pandine. Thistleton, who was a successful jumping horseman himself some years back, has long been known as one of the best trainers in the country in the preparation of jumping horses. His record with Gold Wren and Pandine is one accomplished by few. In recent years Thistleton has not had a big team at Riverton but the percentage of jumping races he has won is particularly high, Nylotis, Panocha, Possum, Quinopal being a few jumping winners he has produced. With Gold Wren he has won six races during the past 12 months while Pandine has won three races since Easter. Both race in the colours of Mr R. Brown, who has enjoyed a wonder-

ful run of successes since his entry into : the sport a couple of sea- ■ sons ago with Vitaphone, who, however, failed to stand work and raced very ; little. With [ Gold Wren he ! won five I races on end i and although ’ the Songbird gelding failed at Riverton

at Easter he returned to the winning list at the South Canterbury meeting last week. Pandine made his first appearance in Mr Brown’s colours at Riverton where he failed each day, but he has now won in his three subsequent starts and is well on the way to equalling Gold Wren’s winning sequence. . _ Great credit for the success of i'aridine and Gold Wren must be given their trainer, Thistleton, who has persevered with Gold Wren and produced him sound again, while he has been successful with Pandine where others have failed. During the past 12 months Child Wren has won six races and been five times placed for £lllO in stakes while for his three wins Pandine had added £315, a total of £1425. Thistleton’s jumping representatives look certain to add to their already fine record before the season is much further advanced, and all going well the pair will race at the Wellington winter meeting at Trentham, after the Dunedin meeting next month.
