TRADESMEN PLEASED WITH N.Z.
AUSTRALIAN CARPENTERS’ REPORT
(Received May 21, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 21.
The Carpenters’ Union, passing on reports from its members in New Zealand, says that working conditions in the home-building trade are generally very satisfactory. A typical letter from a carpenter who was among those engaged in Sydney with a large batch some weeks ago, said that “things over here are right up to expectations, in fact just what they were represented to be.”
Union officials in Sydney, interviewed by representatives of The Sydney Morning Herald, said they were delighted to have such favourable news from the workers who went from Australia. The exodus of Australian tradesmen to New Zealand, it was emphasized, had relieved the unemployment problem to a certain extent.
