PROTEST FROM JEWS IN AUCKLAND
“APPALLED AT PALESTINE PROPOSALS”
(United Press Association)
AUCKLAND, May 19.
The British Government's proposals for Palestine have aroused a feeling of strong indignation in the Jewish community in Auckland. Expression has been given to this feeling in a cable message which has been sent to the Colonial Secretary (Mr Malcolm MacDonald) The cable message, a copy of which was sent to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) was signed by the Rev. Alexander Astor and Mr David L. Nathan on behalf of the Auckland Hebrew congregation. The message is as follows:— “Auckland Jewry is appalled at the Palestine proposals. We deplore the Repudiation of the Balfour Declaration and the mandate, which reduces the Jews to ghetto status in their promised national home. We loyally urge the retention of the British mandate and the fulfilment of solemn world pledges.”
