CHILLED BEEF TRADE IN DOMINION
ARGENTINE OFFICIAL ON VISIT OF INSPECTION
(United Press 'Association)
AUCKLAND, May 20., Particular interest in New Zealand’s chilled beef industry is being taken by Senor D. Lezira Alvear, who is spending six weeks in the Dominion as the official representative of the Argentine Meat Board and the Department o£ Agriculture of the Argentine. The reasons for this interest were given by Senor Alvear in an interview before leaving for the south. “The trade treaty between the Argentine and Britain will conclude at the end of the year,” he said. “It will be necessary to negotiate a new agreement, and one of the several things that will be incorporated will be a quota of meat to be admitted to Britain for the ensuing three, four, or perhaps five years. Our principal interest is chilled beef, which represents our greatest export. As New Zealand and Australia are, with the Argentine, the principal meat producers for the British market, I am interested in trying to find out what are the possibilities of the production of chilled beef in New Zealand and Australia.”
