COMING-OF-AGE PARTY
DANCE IN DIPTON HALL Mr and Mrs F. J. Gerrard entertained a big number of friends in the Dipton hall on Friday night to celebrate the coming-of-age of their eldest daughter, Islay. The hall was decorated with big bowls of chrysanthemums. The evening took the form of a dance, music being supplied by Mr Ballantyne (violin), Mrs Ballantyne (piano), Mr Stanley Ballantyne (violin) and Miss Maida ”allantyne (guitar) and Miss Katherine Ballantyne (drums). Extras were played by Miss K. Shand, Mrs P. Reynolds (Winton), Mr McMaster (Browns), B. Christie (Mossburn) and Mr T. McKenzie (Otahuti). Mr J. Moffett entertained with his talking doll. Mr M. T. Elliott was master of ceremonies.
The guest of the evening wore a frock, of green figured satin while her mother, Mrs F. J. Gerrard, received her guests wearing a smart model frock of mulberry silk velvet. At a suitable interval Mr J. Hall extended thanks to Mr and Mrs F. J. Gerrard for their hospitality and congratulated Miss Islay Gerrard on attaining her majority. Mr Hall spoke of the popularity of the guest and asked her to accept a table of gifts from those present. At this stage the beautiful birthday cake decorated in cream and green with twenty-one candles was brought in. The ceremony of lighting the candles and cutting the cake was performed by the guest who was accorded musical honours. Mr F. J. Gerrard presented his daughter with the customary gold key and wished her the best of luck. Mr Colin McDonald replied on behalf of Miss Islay Gerrard. Among those present were:— Mr and Mrs F. J.
