The engagement is announced of Myrtle, eldest daughter of Mrs Wilson, Winton, to John Jerimiah, eldest son of Mr and Mrs D. O’Brien, Pearly Downs, Lillbum. Mrs Eric Dawson and her daughter, Joan, of Catherine street, are visiting Geraldine. Mrs G. H. Uttley, Crinan street, who is on holiday in Dunedin, will return to Invercargill on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs John Moffet, who have been staying with Mrs G. I. Moffett, North road, return to Dunedin today. Miss Hilary Jones has arrived from Dunedin for the holidays and is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs C. F. A. Jones, Earnslaw street. Miss Molly Girdler, Beatrice street, who has been in Dunedin for the graduation ceremonies, returns home today.
Mrs A. H. Giller, Christchurch, who has been the guest of Mrs G. C. A. Todd, Elies road, returned north at the week-end. Mrs S. Glover, Tweed street, and Mrs L. Smith, Hardy street, were visitors to Dunedin for the races last week.
Miss Mary Crawford, who is now living in Dunlin, visited her parents, Dr A. F. Ritchie Crawford and Mrs Crawford, Don street, for the weekend.
Major Astley Campbell and Mrs Campbell, who have been the guests of Mrs A. C. Hoyles, Herbert street, and Miss Shona Dunlop, who has spent the week-end with Mrs A. F. Webb, Albert street, leave today for Dunedin.
Mrs C. Waddell, organizing secretary of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union for New Zealand, returned by the Awatea last week from Austra-
lia. She will take up the work of the society in Auckland for a few weeks before leaving for the south. Mrs Waddell, as Sister Christabel, was the first Presbyterian deaconess to be appointed in New Zealand. A function of interest to a wide circle of friends was the celebration recently of the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs Richardson, Forth street Before her marriage Mrs Richardson was Miss Mary Wilson and the marriage which took place at the United Presbyterian Church, Leith, Scotland, was performed by the Rev. Dr Hutchison. Mr and Mrs Richardson came to New Zealand almost 20 years ago. There were more than 100 guests at the golden wedding.
