OBITUARY

DR C. L. MANDL

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 13. A member of a pioneer West Coast family, Dr Charles Leopold Mandi, died in Wellington yesterday at the age of 67 years. He was born at Hokitika, being a son of Mr Joseph Mandi, who settled on the West Coast in 1865. He was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School, and took his medical degree at Edinburgh. On returning to New Zealand, he practised for many years in the Manawatu district. Ten years ago he paid a visit to the Continent to carry out research work. He then returned to New Zealand, practising in Wellington. In his younger days, Dr Mandi was a keen Rugby footballer, and was captain of the Otago Boys’ High School first fifteen. He is survived by his wife and one son, Mr M. Mandi, of Hokitika.
