ANOTHER SERIES OF BOMBINGS
THREE EXPLOSIONS IN LONDON GERMAN PROPAGANDA IN IRELAND (Received May 13, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 13. An explosion in the public lavatories at the Marble Arch underground station brought crowds from Hyde Park. Nobody was hurt, but a door was blown off and walls were damaged. A second explosion occurred in the subway between Harrow road and Edgeware road. A third explosion at Hammersmith Broadway caused negligible damage. Gelignite was used throughout, it is believed by the same gang, operating in a motor-car or taxi.
It is reported from Dublin that the police there are investigating the circumstances in which, according to evidence which has come into their possession, Nazi propaganda material has been sent to former members of the Irish Republican Army, says a British Official Wireless message.
The propaganda, the recipients of which appear to have been selected from old I.R.A. lists, has been issued by the Department of Propaganda of the Third Reich in Hamburg, and includes, it is stated, a letter signed by the Minister of Propaganda (Dr Josef Goebbels). This propaganda, it is suggested by commentators, must have been promoted by the rather naive idea that members of the I.R.A. are likely to be pro-German. The contents of the material itself are reported to be largely anti-semitic, and have aroused the comment that the choice of material is not of the happiest, as the recipients formerly regarded themselves as a cruelly persecuted minority.
