POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB WAEKANAE HANDICAP WON BY BOLD STEP (United Press Association) GISBORNE, May 13. The Poverty Bay Turf Club’s steeplechase meeting opened at Makaraka today in fine weather. The track was in good order and there was a big attendance. The totalizator handled £8067 10/- compared with £4482 last year, an increase of £3585 10/-. EASTERN SOUTHLAND HUNT CLUB MEET AT MANDEVILLE The Eastern Southland Hunt Club held a successful meet at Mandeville on the “Wantwood” flats on Saturday afternoon. There was a good following, and after two drag hunts over a special course had been held for juvenile riders, the hounds moved off in search of a hare. A kill was effected after a run of two miles. The hounds were running true and very fast. The hunt was followed with interest by a big number of spectators.
