SOCIAL EVENING AT LIMEHILLS

Last Tuesday evening the members of the Women’s Institute of Limehills held a social evening to bid farewell to two of the members, Mrs W. Walker, the president, and Mrs L. Brosnan who are both leaving the district. Competitions during the evening were won by Mesdames W. McNaught, I, Brosnan, G. Wilson and D. Scrimgour. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs P. Drummond and Mrs R. Woods. A duet was sung by Mrs P. Kettle and Miss S. Lepper. Mrs W. Nicoll on behalf of the members, referred to the valuable work Mrs W. Walker had done as President for six years and asked her to accept an electric toaster and a case of afternoon tea spoons with every best wish for her future health and happiness in her new home. Mrs F. C. Clapp, a former vice-president, expressed pleasure at being present and wished Mrs Walker every happiness. Mrs Walker replied thanking the members for the gifts. She had the recollection of many happy meetings and the splendid support that had been given her while president. She wished the institute every success. Mrs W. Woods, president, asked Mrs L. Brosnan to accept a gift from the members and said they were sorry to lose such a valuable member from the Drama Circle. Mrs Brosnan thanked the members for their gift and refen-ed to her pleasurable association with the institute. Mrs H. Doherty, secretary, made a presentation to Mrs O. Cairns for being the first member to present the district with twins. Mrs O. Cairns replied and thanked the members for their kindly gesture. The singing of Auld Lang Syne brought a very happy evening to a close. Among those present were Mesdames W. Woods, W. Walker, L. Brosnan, O. Cairns, W. Nicoll, H. Doherty, S. Payne, M. Crowe, A. Butt, P. Joyce, E. Coster, S. Harris, F. Clapp, A. Lepper, J. Pemberton, R. Woods, H. Cowie, W. McNaught, G. Wilson, J. McCarthy, P. Drummond, P. Kettle, C. Hawkins, D. Scrimgour, H. Cooney, C.
