The engagement is announced of Vanda Renthea, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Duncan, Castle street, Dunedin, and Wallace, fifth son of Mr and Mrs A. Northcote, Invercargill, formerly of Stony Creek, Garston. Miss A. F. Cutten, Andersons Bay, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs D. H. MacLean, Okaiterua, Caroline. Miss Nina Town, Thornbury, spent the Easter holidays with her sister, Mrs R. H. Hamilton, Limehills. , Mrs G. Pirie, Isla Bank, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs Alan Coughley, Tuatapere.

Mrs C. F. A. Jones, Earnslaw street, leaves tomorrow to spend a few days in Dunedin.

Miss Margaret Macalister, Wellesley avenue, is spending a holiday in Dunedin.

Mrs A. W. Jones, Oteramika road, has returned from a holiday at Stewart Island.

Mrs C. White-Parsons, Lewis street, entertained a number of friends at an afternoon party yesterday, in honour of Mrs G. F. Tobin.

Miss Nancy Macdonald, “Wainui,” Burrows street, Bluff, has returned home after a holiday in Timaru and Christchurch.

Miss A. Mcßeath, of Auckland, arrived in Invercargill by the midday express yesterday. She is to be the guest of Mrs D. K. Torrance, Short street. Mr and Mrs Sydney Fitch, Waimate, who have been visiting Stewart Island,

returned on Monday and motored to Redcliff where they will stay with Mrs Fitch’s sister, Mrs A. F. Speight. When the Bridge Circle of the Southland Women’s Club held its opening of the season on Monday night there was a bigger attendance than for some years. Mrs A. F. Ritchie Crawford, president of the club, was present and made a short opening speech. There were 11 tables of bridge and two of mah jong. The winners for the bridge were Mrs J. Thomson and Mrs Hinchey.
