FOG IN AUCKLAND HARBOUR

DELAY TO SHIPPING (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 17. Incoming shipping was delayed for several hours this morning because of dense fog over the inner harbour. The Matson liner Monterey from California was obliged to anchor off North Head at 6.45 o’clock and was unable to move towards her berth for three hours. The Aorangi, from Sydney, close behind, had to remain in the stream a considerable time, berthing about 11.30. The Mahana from Gladstone (Queensland) arrived early in the morning and berthing was delayed until later in the day. The Lopara from Gisborne anchored until the fog started to lift about'lo o’clock.

From early morning the air resounded with fog horns and warning bells. Early ferry boats were delayed. Because of the delay the departure of the Monterey for Sydney was postponed from tonight till tomorrow afternoon.
