No Work on Waterfront

Five ships were idle at Bluff yesterday when continuous heavy rain prevented any work on the waterfront. Labour was called in the morning, but rain fell before any progress could be made, and no work was done for the rest of the day. With the arrival of the Union Company’s trans-Tasman cargo vessel Waitaki this morning from Melbourne, six ships will be in port and all berths occupied. The vessels are the Federal liner Northumberland, which is loading for Great Britain, the collier Poplta, the coastal trader Wainui, the intercolonial vessels Karetu and Kauri and the Waitaki, all of which are owned by the Union Company.
