OREPUKI
PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE DISCUSSION ON COUNTY AFFAIRS An extraordinary meeting of the Orepuki and District Progressive League was held in the Soldiers’ Club, Mr J. Falska presiding over a good attendance of members. It was decided that Mr B. C. Horrell be asked to call a' meeting of ratepayers, or that a meeting be called under the auspices of the league, to inform ratepayers about county matters. The next meeting night, April 20, was suggested as a suitable night. The secretary was instructed to write to the Southland Electric Power Supply, authorizing it to install one street light. The position of the light was discussed, and a committee comprising Messrs McKeown, Bone, Maginniss, Mumford and Fraser was appointed to confer with a representative of the Electric Power Supply to arrange for a suitable situation near the railway station.
The question of assisting the league’s finances was discussed, and it was finally decided to hold a Paddy’s Market in the Regent Theatre. It was also decided to enlist the co-operation of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union, and the members of the Women’s Institute. Mr Horrell has stated that he would address a meeting of ratepayers, and was anxious to give as much information as possible. BALL AT OREPUKI The Orepuki Athletic Society held its annual ball on Easter Monday night, a big crowd of visitors being present from the surrounding districts and Invercargill. Music for the dancing was supplied by the Melody Wreckers’ band.
Mr W. Shaw was master of ceremonies.
