WAITAKI ARRIVES AT BLUFF •TRANS-TASMAN CARGO SERVICE On her first trip in the cargo service between Melbourne and Bluff this season, the Union Company’s trans-Tasman steamer Waitaki is due from Melbourne this morning. She is to sail tonight to complete discharge at Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington. The scow. Horouta, having finished her overhaul, came off the Bluff Harbour Board’s slip on Saturday morning. She sailed yesterday for Port Craig. To discharge motor-cars and general cargo, and to load, the Union Company’s steamer Wainui arrived at Bluff on Saturday morning. She sails today for Dunedin. BRITAIN’S SHIPPING The preliminary figures for 1938 showing the net tonnage of vessels which used the principal ports of the United 1 Kingdom, are: London, 61,896,484 'tons net; Liverpool, 35,486,956 tons; Southampton, 26,977,449 tons; Hull, 12,455,087 tons; Bristol, 7,799.718 tons; and Manchester, 7,449,512 tons. ALTERED MATSON SCHEDULES ■Three alterations have been made to advance movements of the Matson liners. The Monterey, leaving San Francisco on September 12, will reach Auckland on September 29 and sail for Sydney at noon on September 30, the postponement being to avoid being at Sydney on October 2, the Labour Day holiday. The Monterey will now leave Sydney on December 9, a day late, and reach Auckland on December 12, sailing the same day for San Francisco. The Mariposa will leave San Francisco on December 5, and reach Auckland on December 22, sailing for Sydney at noon on December 23.
