RUGBY FOOTBALL
WESTERN DISTRICT SUB-UNION
REFEREES APPOINTED AT MONTHLY MEETING
The following delegates were present at the monthly meeting of the Western District Sub-Union: Messrs C. Aberdeen (Riverton), J. McKenzie, R. Murray and J. Wilson (Ohai), R. Lee, J. McKenzie and W. Shaw (Orepuki), A. Harrington, W. B. O’Toole and K. McKenzie (Otautau), A. V. Prendeville and G. Nimmo (Nightcaps) and D. C. McCrostie (Referees’ Association). Mr A. H. Lindsay presided. The following referees were nominated by the various clubs: Riverton, Messrs. C. Beer, W. Hopwood and F. Collis; Nightcaps, Messrs M. P. Lyng, J. Prendeville and T. C. Duncan; Orepuki, Messrs R. F. Lee, F. J. Coote and W. Shaw; Ohai, Messrs J. Mair, J. Warding and J. Kitto; Waiau, Messrs J. A. Forde and G. E. Higgins; Otautau, Messrs A. Harrington, R. S. Harrington and D. C. McCrostie.
A transfer was granted to D. Rodgers from Waiau to Otautau. It was resolved to run a third grade competition and to ask clubs entering teams to supply the age and weight of players for next meeting. The following teams were entered for the competition: Nightcaps, Riverton and Waiau, senior and junior; Ohai, senior, junior and third grade; Orepuki and Otautau, senior and third grade. Selectors were appointed as follows: Senior, Messrs R. W. Pickering and W. B. O’Toole; junior, Messrs C. Payne and James Grant.
It was also decided that the selectors act as coaches and managers of the sub-union team. >
It was decided that minutes of appreciation be recorded of the services given by Messrs R. N. Murray as selector for 11 years, and J. Duncan for his assistance to football generally.
