McLeod, of Dunedin. The engagement is announced between Sheila Agnes (Nancy), only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Sutherland, McQueen avenue, Mataura, and Albert Lawrence, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Mazey, 18 Coughtrey street, St. Clair, Dunedin. Miss P. Bryant and Mr I. C. Gregory, Wellington, are the guests of Mrs C. E. Gregory, Tuatapere. Miss Jean Batchelor and Mr W. Burgess, Filluel street, spent the Easter holidays with Mrs R. Hassed, Bayswater. Mr and Mrs R. A. McCaughan and their son Brian, flew to Waimate on Wednesday to attend the Cooney-Jones wedding. Miss M. McCallum, Ettrick street, leaves today for Wellington where she will take part in the foursomes in the ladies’ golf tournament. Mrs J. G. Macdonald was the guest of honour at Smith’s Lounge yesterday afternoon, when the executives of the Southland Provincial and Local Girl Guides’ Association met to bid her welcome after her trip abroad.

Mrs F; G. Hall-Jones, Lennel, leaves today for Christchurch were she will spend a few days before going on to Wellington to attend the half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union executive, which takes place next Friday. - . The Arts’ and Crafts’ Circle of the Southland Women’s Club will hold its opening gathering of the season on Wednesday next at 2.30 p.m. when the members will make a visit to Fleming’s Flour Mill and will have tea at the home of Mrs! T. E. Davis, Forth street.

The engagement is announced of Joan Olive, second daughter of Mr and Mrs H. R. H. Oswin, Rock street, Gore, to Brian Douglas Cochrane, Invercargill, eldest son of Mrs Cochrane and the late Mr D. M. Cochrane, Gore.

The engagement is announced between Marjory Ellen, fourth daughter of Mrs McKinnon and the late Mr J. A. McKinnon, of Riverton, and Leonard Henry, only son of Mrs Ayers and the late Mr Hedley Ayers, of Invercargill. Mr and Mrs C. E. Longman and their small daughter, who have been visiting Mrs C. E. Gregory, Tuatapere, have returned to Dunedin. •

Mr and Mrs J. Chilwell, Underwood, and Miss M. Hill, Rotorua, leave this morning for a week-end motoring trip through Central Otago.

Miss Doris Gibb and Miss Phyllis Hall were the guests of their aunt, Mrs H. J. Gibb, Woodslee Downs, Mataura Island, for the Easter holidays. Misses D. and J. Wilson, E. Ewan, Winton, and L. Clark, Invercargill, have returned from a camping holiday in Queenstown and Eglinton Valley. Recent visitors from Invercargill to The Hermitage, Mt. Cook, include Mr and Mrs A.
