Rain Developing
/ (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, April 14. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the meteorological office, Wellington: Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly winds. Weather becoming cloudy to overcast and rain developing, more especially in western areas. Temperatures mild. Seas rough in western areas; elsewhere moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly fair to fine at first, but cloudy to overcast in western districts with scattered rain in those of the South Island. Rain gradually becoming more widespread over western and southern districts. Temperatures mild. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone still covers the Dominion, but the centre is to the east and pressure is falling under the influence of a depression which is advancing slowly across the Tasman Sea. Winds.—Northerly to north-westerly prevailing, light to moderate at first but freshening, especially about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate, but rising in the south-west and south and about Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate but freshening northerly winds. Seas slight to moderate but rising in the central and southern portions.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday <was warm and sunny. The weather at one o’clock this morning was fine and there was no wind. The barometer readings for the past three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (falling) 29.86 in Friday 30.09 in Thursday 30.20 in
