VICTIM OF “COLOUR BAR” INCIDENTS
JAPANESE BUSINESS MAN’S VISIT TO SUVA (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 14. The victim in Suva of an experience with an apparent “colour line,” a young Japanese business man. Mr T. Ikawa, who is on a holiday tour, expressed on. his arrival in the Matua his happiness at being among New Zealanders. When he attended a picture theatre and asked for one of the more expensive seats he was told that all were occupied and was placed in the cheaper part of the theatre among Fijians and Indians. But when he looked at the seats where he wanted to go he saw that a number was vacant. After visiting the swimming baths twice and cooling off in the heat, he was requested not to use the baths again. Mr Ikawa is not worrying about the incidents, but is glad to be in New Zealand. , He said that in spite of the war in China, business in Japan was proceeding smoothly. Japan had no designs on Australia or New Zealand. “When people tell me that,” he said, “I tell them it is not true. It is only a dream.” ,
