DOG TRIALS AT CROYDON
EVENTS FOR SECOND DAY MR J. B. QUEALE’S BESS WINS OPEN HEAD The Gore Sheep Dog Trials Club’s annual fixture was continued yesterday, the weather again being ideal. Two events, the open head, pull and yard event, and the maiden huntaway event, were completed yesterday and a start was made on the first championship event, the long pull, for allcomers. The meeting will conclude today when the two championship events will be completed. The other championship event is the open huntaway. Mr J. B. Queale, of Lochiel, who has been having a successful run with his dogs this season, secured his first win for the meeting yesterday when his dog, Bess, scored a clearcut win in the open head, pull and yard event. Mr J. Milne’s (Otautau) May, five points behind Bess, was second. Half a point separated Mr J. McCallum’s (Ryal Bush) Ben Lomond, which was third, and Mr D. J. Watson’s (Lochiel) Millie, which was fourth. The maiden huntaway event was won comfortably by Mr J. Brown’s (Mandeville) Sharp, Mr R. C. Kerr’s (Waikaia) Wag being second and Mr J. Milne’s (Otautau) Meg third. Mr Kerr’s Star was fourth in this event.
There has been a big number of spectators at the trials on both days and it is expected that a big crowd will attend today for the championship events. Results are as follows:—
