TUATAPERE

ANNUAL MEETING OF BOXING CLUB The annual meeting of the Tuatapere Amateur Boxing Club was held in the club’s gymnasium. Mr A. McEwan presided over a good attendance of members. The balance-sheet showed the club to be in a good financial position and the report showed that another successful season had been experienced. A gymnasium had been built chiefly by a “working bee” and it was now used by the club as well as by other clubs in the township. To enable the club to build the gymnasium a loan had been granted by the Southland Amateur Sports Trust. The club held an open and novice tournament in August which proved most successful, but because of the poor attendance the profits were small. Members of the club had been successful in winning a fair share of the bouts and so collected several trophies. During the past season Messrs G. McKay and D. Baker both members and keen supporters of the club had joined the professional ranks and the club extended its best wishes to them in their bouts. The death of the patron and medical adviser, Dr Dodds, meant a great loss to the club and to his widow and family the sympathy of the members was extended.

Discussing the report and balancesheet, the president made special mention of the assistance given to the club

by Mr F. Guise as auditor and expressed the club’s appreciation of his work.

The election of . office-bearers resulted: Patrons, Dr Elder and Mr B. Brooks; president, Mr A. McEwan; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Langmuir, D. McKay, D. G. McLeod; secretary and treasurer, Mr P. Wilson; instructor, Mr M. Baldwin; assistant instructor, Mr G. McKay; committee, all present at meeting.
