EDENDALE
PRESENTATION A big party of neighbours of Mr and Mrs W. Mortimer, Edendale, who have acquired a farm at Brydone, paid them a surprise visit to wish them success in their new venture. Several bagpipe selections were played by Mr Stirling and Mr Mortimer, and the rest of the evening was spent in music, song and story. Mr A. W. Archibald, chairman, referred to the pleasure it gave those present to come along and honour Mr and Mrs Mortimer, who. had lived in the district for the past 20 years, and had always taken their share in different activities. Mr Mortimer had been in business as a threshing mill and chaffcutter owner for 30 years, and during that time had done work for nearly every farmer within a radius of 20 miles. Mrs Mortimer had proved a good wife to her husband and had reared a fine family and proved an ideal neighbour. On behalf of those present he asked her to accept a beautiful spark screen, coupled with the wish that she and her husband would long be spared to use it in their new home. Supporting remarks were made by Mesdames Murray, White and Frame, following which Mr and Mrs Mortimer replied.
