16,000 SHEEP AT BALFOUR

COMPETITION GOOD,

SOUND MOUTH EWES IN DEMAND

More than 16,000 sheep were offered at the monthly Balfour stock sale yesterday, when competition was good and prices were fairly sound. Wright, Stephenson and Company Ltd. offered about half the yarding. Big annual drafts from the Glenure and Ben Callum stations were offered by the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd. There was a fairly big number of two-tooth ewes offered and these made up to 31/6. Dalgety and Company Ltd. secured the top price for a line sold on account of Mr A. Stewart, Greenbank, Balfour. J. E. Watson and Company Ltd. and the Southland Farmers’ Cooperative Association Ltd. also secured more than 31/- for lines offered on account of Mr J. Dennis, Balfour, and Mr A. Stewart, Dunkeld, Balfour, respectively. Mr Dennis’s line was sold at 31/2 and Mr Stewart’s at 31/1. Other sorts made up to 30/3 and 30/- with poorer sorts selling down to 26/-. Big lines of sound-mouth ewes offered on account of the Glenure and Ben Callum stations by the National Mortgage and Agency Company Ltd. made keen competition and each line brought more than 25/-.
