ON INVERCARGILL TRACKS

JUMPING DISPLAY BY EL CABALLO SEA LADY’S SMART SPRINT TASK The work of candidates for the Birchwood Hunt meeting on Saturday attracted most interest at the Invercargill tracks yesterday morning, and several useful trials were recorded. Sea Lady was again responsible for a particularly good seven while El Caballo gave an excellent display of jumping. The poles on the main course were out 15 feet and the going was good. Brilliant Boa (R. Humphries) ran away from Ardmayle (Barclay) at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 32 3-ssec, the last half in 53 2-ssec. Brilliant Boa was staying on in good style but Ardmayle has been working disappointingly. Norwood (R. Humphries) and Sparkle (C. Humphries) ran six furlongs in Imin 23 3-ssec, the last half in 56 3-5 sec. They were together at the finish. On her own Sea Lady (Preston) ran seven furlongs in Imin 30 3-ssec, the first two in 25 2-ssec, three in 38sec, and the last half in 52 3-ssec. This was a particularly good gallop but she was doing her best right through. Foxlove (Preston) and Amelita (Ward) galloped a mile in Imin 47sec, the first three in 39sec, the half in 52 l-ssec and the last half in 54 4-ssec. Amelita has been doing good work during the last week or two while Foxlove is improving with each gallop he has had. _ , Heidleberg (Voight) and Grey Seal (Low) ran five furlongs in Imin 6 3-5 sec, the last half in 53 3-ssec. SAILING LADY’S MILE Sailing Lady (G. Barclay) beat Mona’s Song (R. Humphries) by two lengths with Galleon (Preston) six lengths further back at the end of a mile in Imin 47 3-ssec, the first three in 41 2-5 sec, the half in 55sec and the last half in 52 3-ssec. There was no pace on in the early stages and over the last half Sailing Lady outsprinted the pair. She has been staying on well in her work. Galleon was always at the rear and did not put any dash into his effort at the finish. , On the plough Milford (R. Humphries) beat Waitoru (Barclay) at the end of a mile in Imin 44 3-ssec, the first in 38 2-ssec, the half in 51 l-ssec and the last half in 53 2-ssec. . Milford was always going well while it was a good effort on Waitoru’s part. El Caballo (Boyle) and Western Song (V. Langford) set out to jump six fences on the steeplechase course. At the second brush Western Song fell but El Caballo went on and completed the round in good style. He gave a very finished display of fencing and did not look like making a mistake. Western Song was remounted and was sent over eight fences. He jumped the first five with his usual boldness but was very tired at the finish and ran off at the last He was taken back and jumped it in half-hearted style. He was a very tired horse when he pulled up, and this was not surprising as he galloped about three miles and jumped 10 fences into the bargain. He was none the worse for his fall. BEAUMONT R.C.
