BRITAIN AND GERMANY
To The Editor Sir, —A little conversation between Hitler and Goering:— Goering: What is the joke, Hitler? Hitler: Oh, those British, they will make me die of laughter. They mobilized their Fleet and thought they would frighten me. Ha! Ha! I called their bluff at Munich and they collapsed, as I knew they would. Goering: Yes, they are good fun. Over in their Dominion, New Zealand, the young are taught that it is wicked to defend one’s native land. What an easy time our friends, the Japanese, will have! Hitler: Yes, but the people of Britain as just as bad. They will always sacrifice their friend to save their own skins. Goering: And the latest jest! You marched into Prague and annexed Czech territory and what did they do? They recalled their Ambassador! Are you not afraid, Hitler? Hitler: Don’t make me laugh, Goering. Afraid! Afraid of the British! But let us talk seriously about our next step. Are we going to smash through the Polish corridor or crush Belgium? Goering: Really, Hitler, don’t you think we had better attack the Poles? An attack on Belgium might lead to war with Britain. Hitler: You will have your little joke, Goering. All right! We will, crush Belgium. The British might fight! Stop it, Goering, or I shall die of laughter.—Yours, etc., J. P. DAKIN. March 20, 1939.
