MATAURA

RIFLE SHOOTING The Mataura Defence Rifle Club fired a shoot over the 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges for, a trophy presented by Mr J. A. Munro. Eight shots were fired at each range. The match was won by S. Rdss, with an aggregate of 114 points. A 10-shot match was also fired over the 300 and 600 yard ranges, to count for the championship. In this match, the best score off the rifle was that of W. T. Webb, with 94. T. Gaudion was next with 92. Apart from a light, variable wind, shooting conditions were almost perfect.

TUATAPERE GIRL GUIDES COMMITTEE At the monthly meeting of the Girl Guides committee the president Mrs Higgins was in the chair. The following members were present; Mesdames MeIntyre, Tilbury, Tuffery and Low. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the Boxing Club for its generous offer of the use of its club rooms. Arrangements for the birthday party were discussed. A report was submitted by the Captain, Mrs Low, that the four Guides who attended the Guide camp at Riverton had a most interesting and helpful time. It was decided that all Guide uniforms be of the navy colour and not the light blue. PERSONAL Mrs Orchard and her son and daughter who have been visiting Mrs Harrison have returned to Dunedin. Mrs V. Harrison and her small daughter Audrey are spending a few days in Dunedin. Miss Jean Russell, Mataura, has been the guest of Mrs Tuffery. Miss N. Mclntyre is spending a holiday in Queenstown. Mr and Mrs N. Ward are holidaying in Palmerston. Mr and Mrs W. Ellis, Invercargill, were recent guests of Mr and Mrs C. Payne.
