RIFLE SHOOTING
CITY GUARDS CLUB HANDICAP COMPETITION WON BY J. TANSLEY The City Guards Defence Rifle Club fired a handicap competition for a club trophy on Saturday afternoon, 10 shots being fired at 300, 500 and 600 yards. Fine weather was experienced, the light being hazy and the wind changeable at times. At 300 yards J. Tansley was top with 4454545555-46, counting out W. McChesney 4555445545—46. Tansley was in fine form at 500 yards and headed the list by placing his 10 shots within the 18in bullseye for 5555555555—50, W. McChesney 47, B. Broomfield 47, and J. B. Doake being next in order.
At 600 yards Tansley again was top with 5555445545—47 counting out B. Walker 5545455554—47. The trophy was won by Tansley from scratch with the good score of 143, counting out B. Walker, 143, including handicap. Tansley finished with a 5 and Walker with a 4. There will be no competition at Otatara next Saturday,- as the club will be taking part in the McCauley Shield match at Mossburn.
