HAMILTON ROWING REGATTA
CLIFTON WINS SENIOR FOURS (United Press Association) HAMILTON, February 4. At the Hamilton rowing regatta at Hamilton today Clifton, New Zealand senior fours champions, gave a convincing exhibition, winning the senior fours by eight lengths. The rowing throughout was keen, with excellent finishes. The principal results were:— SENIOR FOURS Clifton 1 Waitemata No. 1 2 Hamilton 3 MAIDEN EIGHTS West End 1 Waitemata 2 Tauranga 3 HEAVY MAIDEN FOURS St. George’s 1 Hamilton No. 22 Hamilton No. 1 3 SINGLE SCULLS G. Plummer (Tauranga) 1 Duncan (Hamilton) 2 R. McFarlane (Ngaruawahia) 3 Smith, the national champion, did not start. BOXING FARM BOY KNOCKS OUT “TIGER” FOX GALENTO’S WAY TO BOUT WITH LOUIS (Received February 5, 7.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, February 4. By technically knocking out “Tiger” Jack Fox in the ninth round, Melio Bettina, a farm boy from Beacon, won
New York State recognition as world light-heavyweight champion. In a bout at Detroit Tony Galento (16.12) knocked out Natie Brown in the fourth round and is now nearer to meeting Joe Louis, the champion.
