TWO EXCURSIONS TO BLUFF
GORE AND MATAURA SCHOOLS 650 VISITORS ENJOY OUTING The combined schools’ excursions from the Gore and Mataura districts took about 650 persons to Bluff on Saturday. The special train from Gore carried 400 passengers, and about 220 travelled to the port by rail from Mataura. In addition, there were many picnickers who motored from both districts. Although rain fell at Bluff during the morning, the weather was fine after noon and a pleasant outing was enjoyed by the visitors. Big numbers of picnickers established themselves in Argyle Park, and the younger ones bathed at Argyle beach or tramped over Bluff Hill or round Stirling Point. The visitors returned by special trains during the evening. PRESENTATION Mr J. O’Brien, who has left the staff of the Club Hotel after many years of service, was bidden farewell at a function in his honour before his departure. A presentation of a clock was made by the proprietor (Mr S. G. Mitchell) on behalf of the management and staff. Mr Mitchel praised Mr O’Brien’s, faithful service, and expressed good wishes for the future. Messrs H. McDonald and F. Barford also spoke. PERSONAL Mr F. W.
