TRACK WORK AT WINGATUI

ALMA IN FORWARD ORDER STRIP AND BILBAO GALLOP WELL Training operations were carried out at Wingatui on Tuesday morning under ideal conditions. After a slight frost the tracks were in perfect condition, states The Evening Star, Dunedin. Combat was to have run five furlongs, but broke away from control shortly after passing the seven-furlong post, and ran the last five on the plough in 64 4-ssec. Straightdel, who has not yet completely recovered from the rough handling he received in the running or the Wairio Cup, was not going as well as Song Boy at the end of six furlongs on the plough in Imin 18 4-ssec. Adina ran right away from Violenta at the end of five furlongs in 64 3-ssec, after running the first two in a tick over 24sec. j Greenboa and Spearthrust finished together over six furlongs in lmin 25sec on the outside of the course proper, taking 41 l-ssec for the last three. Pilot’s Love and the Gustavo-My Beauty gelding finished together at the end of five furlongs in 67 3-ssec on the plough track. Valmarch sprinted home over three furlongs on the same track in 43 Queen Beth and a youngster by Royden from Constance galloped half a mile on,the outside of the course proper in 53 3-ssec. Alma, who looks to have done well since she raced at Invercargill, easily

held Half and Half at the end of seven furlongs on the plough in lmin 34sec. New Note was going better than Tupai over six furlongs on the plough, the la§t five taking 67 2-ssec. Bilbao and a Paladin gelding ran half a mile on the same track in 52 3-ssec.

Nightwings, who has freshened up well since the holiday meetings, was sent seven furlongs on the plough, and, picked up at the end of a furlong which took 13sec, was doing it well at the finish, the last six in lmin 18 3-ssec.

Strip, who may race at Tapanui next Saturday, ran five furlongs on the plough very easily in 69 l-ssec. Norseman, looking well, was let off with three-quarter work on the plough. Janefield, Fancy Phil and Night • Pal broke away from the five-furlong post on file course proper, and ran the last half-mile in 54 3-ssec, the first-named going the best. Counterflight held Epic at the finish of six furlongs on the plough in lmin 21sec, the last three taking 40 3-ssec.
