SWORDSTICK’S GOOD WIN

(United Press Association) DUNEDIN, January-13. The Vincent Jockey, Club’s annual meeting opened at Matakanui today in fine but windy weather before a big attendance. The track was fast and the racing good throughout with some exciting finishes. A feature of the meeting was the operation of a new totalizator which was in use for the first time. The totalizator handled £5526 10/- compared with £5103 10/— for the first day last year, an increase of £423. Results:—

Pride O’ Central got the worst of the start and Our Pal led out from a bunched lot and at the end of a furlong Pride O’ Central took charge from Our Pal, Sunny Jean and Master Dingle? Racing to the far turn Thermidor ran into third place just behind Sunny Jean and going along the top Sunny Jean took charge from Pride O Central. As they turned for home Thermidor raced past Sunny Jean and went on to win by a length and a-half from Sunny Jean who was three-quarters ot a length in front of Master Dingle. Our Pal was fourth. Time, 1.50.
