LEOPARD SHOT DEAD AT PAIGNTON

ESCAPE FROM ZOO LONDON, January 12. (Received January 13, 5.5 p.m.) The leopard which escaped at Paignton was shot dead in the zoo grounds.

The police ordered women and children indoors at Paignton while nearly the whole male population of the holiday town hunted a leopard which escaped from a private zoo after mauling its keeper. The whole of Devonshire was warned by radio. Mobile police toured the countryside and special constables stood by armed and ready to proceed to the place where the animal was sighted.
