SENTENCED TO HARD LABOUR

INTOXICATED MOTORIST (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 17. A sentence of two weeks’ hard labour without the option of a fine, cancellation of his licence and prohibition from obtaining another for a year was imposed on Joseph Blatchford, aged 33, a baker, by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., for intoxication while in charge of a car. A constable saw the car come out of a street without lights at 2 a.m. and stood in the roadway to stop the driver. The driver swept round him and collided with a stationary car. The degree of intoxication was not great the sub-inspector said and accused had not previously been before the Court.
