THE HORRORS OF WAR
To The Editor
Sir, —Some one writing to your paper and signing himself “Anzac” drags my name twice into his letter. I should like to make the following reply. Article 231 of the Treaty of Versailles runs thus: “The Allied and Associated Governments affirm and Germany accepts the responsibility of Germany and her allies for causing all the loss and damage to which the Allied and Associated Governments and their nationals have been subjected as a consequence of the war imposed upon them by the aggression of Germany and her allies.” “Anzac” may describe in vivid and dreadful terms all the horrors of the Great War but, by so doing, he will merely be increasing our loathing of the wickedness of Germany and our contempt for those of our own race who have laboured hard to place Germany once more in a position to inflict such horrors, on a long-suffering world. Yours, etc., J. P. DAKIN. December 17, 1938.
