HOSPITAL BOARD’S MEETING ■
REPORTS RECEIVED FROM SUPERINTENDENTS
Three hundred and forty-six patients received treatment in the Southland hospital during November, said the medical superintendent (Dr L. C. McNickle) in his report to the Southland Hospital Board yesterday. The number admitted during the month was 252; 225 were discharged and. 16 died. The average number of patients a day was 107.33 and the number in the institution on November 30 was 105. In the X-ray department 160 inpatients, 44 out-patients and 19 private patients were X-rayed. In the massage department 310 patients received treatment.
The following donations were received: Tobacco (Red Cross Society), weekly papers (Dr Anderson), flowers (Mrs G. Corbett and Mrs Skerrett), books (Mrs J. Bell, Mrs H. J. Kissel! Mrs Hull, Mrs McKenzie, Mr Richardson, Master E. Hutton and Miss Murphy and comic papers (Miss J. Gray). “Boyd brothers, who come each morning to shave patients, have taken the mail each morning to the Post Office since the hospital opened. This has been a great help to get the letters posted in time for the afternoon mail. They have been most obliging,” said the matron, Miss Ross, in her report. There were 42 operations ana 97 outpatient attendances at the Gore hospital during November, said Dr J. E. Rogers, the medical superintendent, in his report. Seventy-one patients were admitted, 72 were discharged, two died and 35 remained on December 1. Donations were received from the Wyndham Angling Club (trout), Mrs Turnbull (flowers) and the McNab Womens Institute (books). Forty-one patients were admitted to the Riverton hospital, 41 were discharged, four died and 29 remained on December 1. There were 26 operations and 62 out-patient attendances during November. Donations were received from Mrs Anderson (Waipango), flowers; the Presbyterian Church (flowers); Mrs Bruce, Mrs Patrick and Mr S. L. McNeil (magazines); Mrs Edie and the Tuatapere branch of the Women s Division of the Farmers’ Union (books); Mrs Brown, Nightcaps, and Miss Galloway (old linen). No deaths occurred at the Lake County hospital in November. Eight patients were admitted, 17 were discharged and 10 remained on December 1. There were two operations. Twenty-five patients 'were admitted to the Invercargill infirmary, 21 were discharged, four died and 98 remained on December 1.
The following donations were received: Cushion covers (First Church Rangers); cakes (Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union); books (Mrs Marshall and D. McNeil); papers (Mrs D. J. Wesney and Mrs Ramsay). Three Southland patients were admitted to the Waipiata sanatorium and six were discharged during November.. There were present at the meeting: Mr T. Golden (chairman), Mrs .’. Henderson, Misses H. L. Birss and H. L. Hunt, and Messrs W. Clark, J. S. A. McDougall, A. McKenzie, J. H. Smith, F. F. Trapski and G. A. Wrayt’ and Dr J. A. Pottinger.
