PUPILS SEEKING POSITIONS

MR DENHAM GIVES ADVICE “Some of you will be leaving college to seek positions and I wish you well,” remarked Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P., in speaking at the break-up ceremony of the Southland Technical College yesterday. “The most valuable asset you can have is a good healthy body and mind. You all appear to be very healthy children and I can give you no better advice than to do your utmost to preserve that health.” Mr Denham said it was up to the children to safeguard their health and treat their bodies as they should be treated. “You can have an alert mind if you train it and you can have a good physique if you develop it,” he remarked. “You should all have recreation, but there is a time and place for it. “Your future depends largely on yourself and do not depend on others too much,” added Mr Denham. “Do not go to your member of Parliament or your Mayor and say that you want a job. You must have initiative and energy to find work for yourselves. The opportunities are there, but you have to go and make the most of them. Energy is required; you have to be neat in your appearance; enthusiastic about the job you are to do and a lot depends on yourself.”
