HOLLAND SENDS GOLD ABROAD
THE HAGUE, December 14.
Within a year the Netherlands Bank has transferred secret deposits abroad amounting to £44,000,000, which is a quarter of the country’s gold holdings. The transfers are reported to have been inspired not only by fear of seizure in war time but also by the necessity to be able to buy foodstuffs in the event of an emergency.
