LEARN-TO-SWIM WEEK
PROGRAMME IN HAND Preliminary arrangements for holding leam-to-swim week from December 5 to 10 were made at a meeting of those interested in swimming last night. Mr A. E. McGrath, president of the Southland Swimming Centre, presided. Mr McGrath expressed pleasure at seeing such a representative attendance and explained the reason for calling the meeting. It was decided to make application to the City Council lor the free use of the baths during the week, to apply to the council for a grant of £lO and to ask that children be admitted free during school hours. Saturday morning, December 10, was reserved for country children unable to come into town during the week. A suggestion that clubs be asked to forgo their usual sessions during leam-to-swim week was adopted. There were present at the meeting Messrs A. E. McGrath (chairman), T. McKenzie, G. C. Broughton, T. Cagney, S. Slocombe, D. G. Pankhurst, J. Welsh, S. C. Lawless, A. Kinross, A. R. | Dunlop, G. Rask, W. Atley, Bro. Aug~«tine and S. J. Green (secretary).
