WIDER POWERS WANTED BY CANBERRA
REFERENDUM LIKELY EARLY NEXT YEAR (Received November 23, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. November 22. The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) in a statement indicated that a referendum at which the people would be asked to give the Commonwealth Government much wider powers in many directions was likely to be held next year. Mr Lyons said the Commonwealth was determined to press forward promptly with a non-party appeal for additional powers.
