GERMAN EXPORTS TO DOMINIONS
COMPLAINT AGAINST SUBSIDIZED GOODS
SAFEGUARDS WANTED BY BRITISH INDUSTRY (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received November 11, 7.10 p.m.) LONDON, November 10. In the House of Commons Sir Smedley Crooke (Conservative) asked what steps the Government was taking, to safeguard British manufacturers against German subsidized exports to Australia, New Zealand and India. 'The President of the Board of Trade (the Hon. Oliver Stanley) replied that the question of trade relations between Germany and the Dominions and India, including the treatment accorded to German goods, was primarily one for a settlement between Germany and the overseas countries concerned.
“I am always ready,” he said, “to examine any specific cases where United Kingdom interests are being prejudicially affected, with a view to finding a solution.’’
The Daily Telegraph says that since the discussions on the economic effect of Germany’s absorption of Austria and Sudetenland and the development of her interest in South-East Europe, British commercial magnates are proposing a trade mission to Germany. It is understood that a group of industrialists will make advance inquiries, after which it is hoped that the Board of Trade will examine the position and that the Government will send a delegation to Berlin. This is regarded as a sound move In view of the German concern over the possible results of the Anglo-American trade pact and the decline of AngloGerman trade.
