GROUND CONTROL OF FLIGHTS
SUGGESTION AT INQUIRY INTO KYEEMA CRASH
(Received November 11, 11.40 p.m.) MELBOURNE, November 11. The appointment of an independent flight control officer, preferably an officer of the Commonwealth Government, to despatch commercial aeroplanes from aerodromes and to check their positions during flights, was advocated at the inquiry into the loss of the air liner Kyeema by Captain E. H. Chaseling, operations manager of New Guinea Airways. This, in conjunction with a radio beam system, would militate against a recurrence of such a disaster, he said. The control officer would plot a course 15 minutes ahead and this would be a check on any possible mistake by a pilot After technical evidence had been heard the inquiry was adjourned till Monday.
