POLICE SEARCH FOR MISSING WOMAN

NINE MEMBERS CAMPED AT . CLOVERLY (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. With a big contingent of police still combing the countryside, -no trace has yet been found of Mrs Harriet Jane Patience, aged 60, the wife of Arthur John Patience, a Public Works Department employee. Under DetectiveSergeant J. Bikerdike men are scouring the hills at the back of the former public works camp at Claverly and it is understood that portions of the beach are being dug over. Missing since October 4, Mrs Patience was at the time of her disappearance living at Claverly, where her husband was employed at the South Island main trunk camp there. Nothing has been heard of her since. Police assistance was sought and on Monday nine members of the force in Christchurch were sent to Claverly, where they are now encamped. Superintendent A. Cameron and Chief Detective W. H. Dunlop left Christchurch this morning by motor-car for the scene of police activity. In the meantime an intensive search continues and the police are being aided by public works employees in the district. Th main camp has, however, been moved to Taratuhi. further along the South Island main trunk line and there are fewer men in the Claverly district now.
